Every year during the lead up to the holidays, I paint a small batch of these one of a kind tree ornaments. I love setting aside time for these little paintings because it allows me to experiment, try new colour palettes, and create cozy little worlds in just a couple of hours versus the 40-80 hours I usually spend on my larger pieces. I love the quiet routine of creating them, from dreaming up each scene to sketching them out, drilling holes in sides of the little wooden frames and screwing in the gold loops by hand, to photographing them out in the world. I love lining them all up together and looking into each little scene, letting myself be transported to far away places.
Every year I have to convince myself to put them up for sale instead of just keeping them all, because I get so attached to them. I don’t know what it is about these, but they’re extra special and I look forward to creating them each year. And even though I’d love to keep them all, it also makes me so happy to send them off to new homes where they will bring a bit of coziness and magic to you and yours. Thank you for supporting this little tradition of mine, it means so much to me to be able to create these each year!
