Unlike most paintings in my ‘Daybreak’ series, this mountain isn’t very well known. It’s partway up the Icefields Parkway, on the way to Jasper from Lake Louise. It’s called Mount Chephren, and it’s always been one of my favourite peaks. It’s epic from all angles, but this is the view you get while ski touring near Bow Lake, where I’ve spent many a happy day in the backcountry with friends. It might not be well known, but it will always hold a special place in my heart and I absolutely loved painting it.
