I wanted to capture the prehistoric grace of a great blue heron while also giving him a lot of personality. I wasn’t quite sure where I was going with the background for this one, and spent a lot of time layering in spray paint while a snow storm blew in around me. I was all set up outside though, and really didn’t want to stop until I had it just right. The snow swirling around me was cold and inconvenient but so beautiful, and I think it added to the strange magic of this painting.
This 24” round original painting is acrylic and aerosol on a 0.75” depth cradled birch panel.
