Lodgepole pines are everywhere in Banff National Park, so common they can become background noise if you're not paying attention. This painting is an invitation to pay attention.
I wanted to capture the environment that the rest of the wildlife in this collection live in and around, the misty, layered world of the mountain forest, full of stillness and promise. The background moves from deep teal at the roots up through to a yellow-green at the crown, which felt right for a tree that has always struck me as quietly full of life.
This 6×12” original painting is acrylic and aerosol on a 1.5” gallery depth cradled birch panel.
